Waaaay Behind On Lost… But…

Why did Charlie die like he did? Why didn’t he just leave the room when he saw the grenade? He already did his job. I get that he was “fated” to die, but it just didn’t make any sense.

I know it’s futile to get frustrated that something doesn’t make sense on this show, but after the marathon session I had with season 3, I really can’t get my mind off of it.

So, again I ask, why did Charlie have to drown?
